Background
Batlangay comes from Manila. Becausee Philippines doesn't have much resources or toys for children, they usually invent games with no need of any equipment. Batlangay is one of these games.
Set up:
  • Ground preparation : two parallel lines are drawn about 10 meters apart of each other. One is the starting line and the other is the finishing line.
  • Assignment of roles : The players from two teams. Select a leader in each of them.
  • Formation : Each team forms a line behind the starting line. Each leader stands on the finish line opposite his team.
Rules
  • At a given signal, the first player of each team crawls on his knees, carrying a rider on his back to the finish line. The leader of his team helps the rider disamount.
  • The carrier stands and the rider run back to the starting line to touch the next carrier of his team. *Note : the game continues until the last carrier and his rider runs
  • The next pair to run cannot leave the starting line unless the previous rider has touched the carrier's hand
  • The team that crosses the finish line first wins
  • A big husky leader at the finish line is an asset for a team since a strong, fast boy can easily help a rider disamount in no time at all. Any second lost in this process delayes the rider from returning to the starting line and touching the hand of the next carrier.
Teaching Styles:
  • Provide clear and simple instructions
  • Encourage players to communicate throughout the game
  • Safety instructions to be tailored to the environment and participants playing the game.
  • Help people with disabilities make contact and move, if needed
Rules:
  • The leader can be changed at anytime.
  • Do not include any leader: the riders must dismount by themselves.
  • Do not include riders and make it a crawling game.
Environment:
  • Make the distance between the starting and finishing lines shorter/longer
Equipment:
  • Introduce obstacles
  • The riders can carry items or collect them from the finishing line to bring back to the starting line.
